Fox News interpretation of a CNN poll v. the actual CNN poll showing the opposite.

Fox adopted this story from LifeSite, an anti-abortion website, and argues:

“CNN has released the results of a new poll showing a majority of Americans want all or most abortions prohibited — a clear pro-life majority.

The survey asked: “Do you think abortion should be legal under any circumstances, legal under only certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances?” Some 62 percent want abortions illegal in all cases or legal only in certain instances while just 35% want abortions legal for any reason.”

In fact, the percentage of people who chose “legal under all circumstances” has RISEN to 35% since the last poll was conducted in 2011, and the percentage of those choosing “illegal in all circumstances” has dropped 6%.

As indicated in the actual numbers of the poll that apparently neither LifeSite nor Fox thought anyone would ever read, it is clear that the majority of respondents also chose “legal under certain circumstances” every year that the poll was conducted.

Additionally, respondents overwhelming favored abortion legality “when the woman’s life is endangered” (88%), “when the woman’s physical health is endangered” (83%), and “when the pregnancy was caused by rape or incest (83%).

Finally, the highest percentage recorded of those having chosen total abortion prohibition is 24%, a far cry from the “majority” of Americans as Fox claims. The numbers demonstrate a greater shift towards abortion rights.

This is media misinformation. This is an epidemic, this is a problem.
