- Me: (Looking at a woman wearing a colorful hijab walking past our table in a restaurant)
- Sri Lankan Friend: You want to body check her, don't you?
- Me: What?
- Sri Lankan Friend: Body check her, like to see if she is wearing a bomb.
- Me: What? I was actually just thinking about how beautiful her hijab is.
- Sri Lankan Friend: Wow, that is so un-American of you.
This website knows no bigger oxymoron than “Tumblr Support”
5. Sex outside of marriage is a sin. Sinful sex includes homosexuality, erotica, bestiality, bisexuality, fornication, friends with benefits, adultery, swinging, prostitution, incest, rape, polygamy, polyandry, sinful lust, pornography, and pedophilia (I Corinthians 6:9-11,18-20, Hebrews 13:4).
My favorite conservative argument about “correct sex” and the evils of homosexuality is the Biblical one, for the sole reason that it is so easily proven incorrect. Here, for example, in a lovely article from Pastor Mark Driscoll for Fox News, we find homosexuality, bisexuality, and pornography lumped together with rape and pedophilia. Ironically enough, the argument that the Bible promotes “correct sex” by constructing rape as a sinful act is tireless wrong.
1. Deuteronomy 21:10-1
“When you go out to war against your enemies and the LORD, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pare her nails and lay aside her captive’s garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion.”
2. Numbers 31:7-18
Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp. But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle. “Why have you let all the women live?” he demanded. “These are the very ones who followed Balaam’s advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD’s people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves.
3. Deuteronomy 20:10-14
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.
4. Deuteronomy 22:23-24
If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife.
Fox Latin America has apologized for a poll that one of its staffers posted on a Facebook page asking who readers think is responsible for the death of Christ: Pontius Pilate, The Jewish People or the High Priests. The poll has been deleted. Anyone else want to see the results?
Rarely do Fox News related things surprise me anymore. This is an exception. The Jewish People. All of them. Collectively! How did I miss this poll?

Consistently my all time favorite politics and news Tumblr, In Other News brings you reliable news, photo-journalism, early morning pictures of New York City, music, daily coverage of the Daily Show and now CAPSLOCK SERIOUS. A true Tumblr staple.
How much can I say about Bonnie? Let me just tell you Tumblr, this girl is smart. I am neither a libertarian nor a hipster, but The Hipster Libertarian is a fantastic blog. A subset of Bonnie’s larger blog, Bonnie Kristian, The Hipster Libertarian is filled with straightforward, explanatory and honest answers to almost every question you could ever fathom regarding libertarianism. Partisan politics aside, her responses are pretty damn persuasive.
Speaking of smart bloggers, Mohandas Ghandi will shut down your racist, sexist, classist commentary in three words and school you on international events in the same sentence. Unapologetically honest, Mohandas Ghandi offers political commentary and personal insight on cultural events, complete with lots of GPOYs. Her wealth of international and legal knowledge continually floors me in a way that makes me feel I must immediately become more informed. I think that is always a good thing.
Enya is the queen/king/genderless god all things queer and feminism. If you want quotes, articles, news, insight, illustration, and honest conversation about sex, minority rights, queerness, gender, body positivism, capitalism, atheism, drugs, social justice, Audre Lorde, and cats, Lips Between the Hips is a one-stop shop. Consider yourself educated, Tumblr. It should be noted that there can be some pretty big (but well identified) TWs on this page, and lots of nudity.
I love I Love Charts. Literally a blog filled with charts, which are funny, informative, political, depressing, and sometimes about Fox News.
Cats That Look Like Ron Swanson
Self explanatory.
A fantastic collection of international photojournalism, updated constantly and always high quality. fotojournalismus designates photographers of the month and encompasses a wide range of events and geographic regions in their posting. A fairly new Tumblr launched in September, fotojournalismus fills a big gap in the Tumblrsphere.
Not for the faint hearted, Jessica Luxury is a self-described “a high-femme fatty who bleeds glitter and kittens in lace bonnets.” She blogs about body positivity, fat politics, makeup, big hair, 80s music, self-acceptance, gender, cats, vintage clothes, poverty, sex and sexuality. One of my absolute favorite blogs right now.
A housekeeping note, I am leaving the day after tomorrow for a two and a half week research trip to Sri Lanka, so posting on RFN will be in and out accordingly. Have a great rest of your holidays!
Side note - if anyone who has followed this blog for an extended period of time would be interested in the occasional guest blogging while I’m gone, shoot me a message.
- Me: Dad I'm impressed, you fixed that computer problem yourself.
- Dad: I know, I'm becoming a wizard.

An astoundingly ironic article from Fox News’ resident psychiatrist bigoted homophobe and non-heterosexual bedroom-policer, Dr. Keith Ablow. From the article,
“The sexual histories of political candidates and elected officials have no place in politics because they can distract us from supporting those men and women with the skills to reduce the nation’s debt, create jobs and defeat our enemies….
I have treated miraculously talented, married surgeons and researchers who save lives every day, then meet up with escorts by night. Personally, I wouldn’t hazard going under the knife with a less talented fellow who is a paragon of virtue, sexually.”
Dr. Ablow would, however, stop your children from watching Chaz Bono on television because they might get the idea that being transgender is acceptable, or warn you against shopping at J. Crew, lest your son learn to paint his toenails. But don’t worry, he has no problem praising heterosexual infidelity and serial adulterers. Let’s face it, he just wants you to focus on the fact that they are Republican, male and heterosexual people too.
Stephen Colbert, on the War on Christmas
Even though the US economy is slumped in the doldrums, some of the country’s shrewdest commentators make a serious case that Obama could be heading for a landslide victory in 2012.
How to explain such a turnaround? In the United States, at least, there is one compellingly simple, two-word answer: Fox News.
By any normal standards, Obama should be extremely vulnerable. Not only is the economy in bad shape, he has proved to be a much more hesitant, less commanding White House presence than his supporters longed for. And yet, most surveys put him comfortably ahead of his would-be rivals. That’s not a positive judgment on the president – whose approval rating stands at a meagre 44% – but an indictment of the dire quality of a Republican field almost comically packed with the scandal-plagued, gaffe-prone and downright flaky. And the finger of blame for this state of affairs points squarely at the studios of Fox News.
Jon Stewart, on Fox News’ Megyn Kelly and her
strangely not conservativecrusade for paid maternity leave
Anti-“government handouts” until they apply to you, Fox News style. From Jezebel’s article Megyn Kelly Bravely Stands up for Megyn Kelly’s Rights:
While Kelly’s pro-maternity leave stance might seem encouraging, and a prominent woman conservative woman advocating any sort of social program refreshing, it’s not brave or envelope pushing to advocate policies that would be immensely beneficial to yourself. As Jon Stewart pointed out, Kelly isn’t so progressive when it comes to other social programs that would immensely help other populations, as that would be “government intrusion.” Megyn Kelly is about as Girl Power as Sarah Palin or Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
Bob Dane, Communications Director, Federation for American Immigration Reform, for Fox News
An article sanctioned by Fox News about an organization using words to drive political goals and “affix inflammatory connotations to words and phrases used in the policy discussions with which they disagree?”
The irony is overwhelming.
The RFN Poetry Competition Extravaganza went so well last year, we are hosting another competition!! We really need a good logo/banner for the top of the blog, and the creator of the winning submission will win their choice of anti - Fox news swag.
Rules:
1. The logo/banner must read “Really,…
Bill O’Reilly, strangely responding to Wisconsin community organizer Brendan Lane’s question, “Were you at [Newt] Gingrich’s fundraiser?” by hitting him with his umbrella. (Side note: O’Reilly broke his umbrella).
